Managers as leaders

"It is very important for us to clarify the two terms ; 'Manager' and 'Leader'.The term 'manager' refers to a person who on behalf of the owners of a firm , takes decisions relevant to the accomplishment of its objectives , Also Managers are appointed.

Leaders use formal authority, which visited in their positions. Think of the various types of managers, such as financial manager, production manager and marketing manager in various divisions of the organization. All of them may not be effective as leaders.

The term "leader" has much wider meaning than manager. Leaders may either be appointed or emerged from within a group. Further , a person can be a leader without being a manager. There are workers who are " self - made leaders " in various departments of companies and whose guidance is sought by co- workers, and associates.

However , there are important similarities between managers an leaders. Without leadership it is impossible to achieve managerial effectiveness Thus, leadership has a critical importance in the achievement of the organizational objectives."
